The band's concept

Solche have a fairly clear idea of their music, partly because the band's three members are very analytical characters (Grübelmonster). Holm Krieger and Michael Focken have also tried a variety of musical styles in other projects. Ultimately, this acoustic group has proved to have the organisational flexibility, the clarity that matters so much for the lyrics, and the social resilience to make music in a way that keeps feeling right: both personally and for the band's community.

What does an inclusive band mean?

Many bands occupy a particular style intended to draw in a particular audience. Aggressive sounds, extravagant celebrations of technical skill, or simply volume can create a barrier that excludes others. Of course, that is cool and star-like. Who would still proudly call themselves a hard rocker if Grandma liked it too? Solche take a different approach. From the outset, the band has tried to make its own music without placing an obstacle in front of it. This does lead to performances at weddings and birthday parties, but across 300 concerts the band had still never played a cover. That says something too.

Is there a philosophy?

There are actually several. One concerns our approach to music: as emotional as possible and as precise as necessary. Mario Krohn on cajón and Michael Focken on bass are mainly responsible for the latter. Their instrumental finesse and love of making music breathe life and the right drive into Holm Krieger's often musically rather dull song ideas. As lyricist and singer, Holm in turn has an important role, with room to let his artistic, rather cerebral ideas run free. The result is fast, straightforward, danceable music with experimental, sometimes funny, and always complex lyrics.

What about the monkey business?

Of course we would like to make a living from music. Not to get rich, but to spend all our time making it. Rehearsal rooms, CD production and instruments also cost a lot of money. We hope that people who enjoy our music will recognise the importance of supporting this project: by buying CDs or clothing, or by coming to concerts.
